Experience the best shopping in Zurich at these 11 spots
As a shopaholic, shopping is much more than just checking out at the counter and going home with goodies.
Shopping is about the total experience—walking from one shop to the next, comparing prices and brands, and soaking in the festive atmosphere. The checkout? That’s just the grand finale.
Of course, that only works if we’re shopping somewhere worth it, right? Luckily, Zurich has some great shopping spots, and I’m spoiled for choice. Now, I’m excited to share them with you!
Here are my picks for the best shopping spots in Zurich.
1. Bahnhofstrasse
Media Credit: bernhard_bettermann
Address: 8001 Bahnhofstrasse
Operating Hours: Shops are open Monday to Friday from 9:00 AM – 7:00 PM | Saturday: 9:00 AM – 6:00 PM | Closed on Sunday
Who hasn’t heard of Bahnhofstrasse? A Zurichan favourite, Bahnhofstrasse is among the world’s most exclusive shopping zones. It extends from the city’s central train station to Lake Zurich.
Bahnhofstrasse’s appeal lies in the sheer variety of shops and boutiques that line both sides of the nearly 1.4-kilometre street. Luxury brands like Chanel, Louis Vuitton, and Gucci are on display.
You’ll also see Swiss watchmakers like Bucherer and Beyer and popular department stores like Jelmoli and Globus.
You’ll find everything in Bahnhofstrasse—designer clothes, high-end watches, and more. You can even buy treats from Sprüngli (their signature Luxemburgerli macaroons and pralines are a must-try) and Swiss chocolates from Läderach and Teusche.
Pro Tip:
Remember to visit Bahnhofstrasse during the Christmas season. The street is illuminated by bright, colourful lights in a spectacle called “Lucy.”
2. Niederdorf

Address: Niederdorfstrasse
Operating Hours: Shops are open Monday to Saturday from 9:00 AM – 8:00 PM | Closed on Sunday
Known as a nightlife destination, this beloved “Dörfli” (little village) is also a shopping powerhouse. But, unlike Bahnhofstrasse, Niederdorf is home not to global brands but to unique local boutiques, antique shops, and artisan stores.
That’s why Niederdorf is the perfect place to discover local designers, vintage fashion, and handcrafted goods. It’s also a must-visit destination for tourists looking for speciality chocolate shops and Swiss souvenir stores.
After shopping, you can retreat to Niederforf’s many cosy cafes or enjoy great food at restaurants such as La Fonte (a highly rated pizza place) and Sablier (good food, exceptional ambience).
If you’re into nightlife, you might even want to explore Niederforf’s vibrant evening entertainment.
Pro Tip:The best time to visit Niederdorf is during “Dörflifäscht,” which occurs at the end of August. This festival combines excellent music, good food, and shopping. Many DJs also perform during this time.
3. Löwenstrasse

Address: 8001 Löwenstrasse
Operating Hours: Shops are open Monday to Saturday from 9:00 AM – 8:00 PM | Closed on Sunday
Löwenstrasse runs parallel to Bahnhofstrasse and is essentially its twin. It can be thought of as the more relaxed version of Bahnhofstrasse.
It’s home to mid-range but internationally renowned retail stores like H&M, Esprit, and local department stores. It also houses local bookstores, speciality sports shops, and independent boutiques.
If you’re not into luxury brands, Löwenstrasse offers endless affordable shopping options. It also provides a more relaxing atmosphere because it’s generally less crowded than Bahnhofstrasse.
Once you’re done shopping, I suggest you drop by Brezelkönig for fresh pretzels or Vapiano for fine Italian cuisine.
Pro Tip:
Wander the many small alleys connecting Löwenstrasse and Bahnhofstrasse. You’ll find hidden boutiques that might just be to your liking.
4. Kreis 4

Address: 8004 Langstrasse
Operating Hours: Shops are open Monday to Saturday from 11:00 AM – 7:00 PM | Closed on Sunday
Kreis 4, or Chreis Cheib to us locals, offers an off-the-beaten-path shopping experience. That’s mainly because it brings flea market vibes with all the second-hand stores in the area.
At the same time, there are many independent local boutiques and record shops around. These stores elevate the shopping experience to just above flea market territory but still below high-end spending.
Further down, around the Langstrasse area, are shops from local fashion designers and independent artisans who craft handmade clothing and accessories. With these different stores, Kreis 4 offers a diversity that few shopping destinations can offer.
Pro Tip:
Bargain, bargain, bargain! While there are no explicit signs of discounts, feel free to ask for sales or markdowns. They throw out an offer for a deal here and there.
5. Im Viadukt

Address: 8005 Viaduktstrasse
Contact Details: [email protected]
Operating Hours: Monday to Saturday: 9:00 AM – 8:00 PM | Closed on Sunday
When it comes to facade and cultural vibes, Im Viadukt is in a class of its own. The shopping area is housed within the 36 arches of a 500-yard 19th-century railway viaduct.
Im Viadukt’s exterior is a testament to Zurich’s history. Inside, however, it showcases modernity with name-brand boutiques, local fashion stores, and speciality food outlets.
But the star of the show is the Markthalle, the mall’s market hall, which offers fresh produce and gourmet delights. Plus, most shops here sell locally sourced products, making the spot ideal for eco-conscious shoppers.
Pro Tip:
Im Viadukt is very popular and tends to get crowded. To escape the hustle and bustle, visit early mornings on weekdays when the crowds are still sparse.

Outdoor enthusiasts will also love Europaalle, home to HappyBike and Transa Travel & Outdoor. This modern space also hosts well-known Swiss brands, fashion, lifestyle, and technology concept stores.

If you’re like me and love flea markets and anything vintage and unique, then Flohmarkt Kanzlei is your best bet.
It’s the perfect destination for hunting rare and unusual items, mingling with locals, and soaking in the city’s vibrant multicultural atmosphere.
I found old books, vinyl records, vintage furniture, and some handmade jewellery among the treasures at Flohmarkt Kanzlei.
It’s unfortunate that this market only opens once a week.
Pro Tip:
Be the early bird! Some vendors set up very early, so match your schedule with theirs to get the first crack at the items for sale.
10. Rosenhof Markt

You can expect to see secondhand clothing, handmade jewellery, leather items like bags and shoes and all sorts of antiques here.
Swiss craftsmanship is also displayed at Rosenhof Market, where various vendors offer handicrafts and souvenirs.
Often, the artisans themselves manage the booth, and engaging with them can be an enlightening crash course on craft-making and Swiss artistry and ingenuity.
Pro Tip:
Various food stalls and carts offer street food from around the world, and it’s best to sample a few.

This flagship store, housed in a uniquely constructed tower of stacked shipping containers, offers a diverse lineup of specially made bags and accessories. Each of these is one-of-a-kind and has a true value-for-money score.
As a bonus, the store has an observation deck you can visit after shopping. From atop the stacked containers, you can see parts of Zurich from a panoramic perspective—something no other shopping destination can offer.
Pro Tip:
Ask about the B stocks. They are bags with minor, barely noticeable defects markedly cheaper than pristinely made items.
